I would say I am more of an over-estimator than an under-estimator, which is why at the Baby Lab when we graduated from the MacArthur-Bates Words and Gestures to the Words and Sentences list, I was blown away.
I have to admit, when we first undertook the Words and Gesture list I looked at all the words on this multi-page document and thought, we will never fill this up. Well now only one-year later, we've filled almost all the receptive words and many of the expressive words and therefore have somehow graduated to the bigger Words and Sentences list. This new list is also intimidating. It is basically an expansion on the original list and only focuses on the expressive language.
Simply filling it out as an expansion from the original list took some time because Lily has made so much progress in the last six weeks. I thought my word list on the side of this blog was pretty comprehensive. Wrong. When I finished filling out the Words and Sentences expressive list, I'd checked off 171 words. Can you believe that? Then we need to add all those more unusual words on the blog list to that total. Maybe 200 plus words. We are excited.
Two word combos are also coming along. We're going to pick some "target" two word combos to focus on this weekend. We thought we heard "get up" and "daddy up" yesterday so I think we're on the verge of a word combo break though. Lots of changes. Exciting times.
