Another great apple harvest at our friends' farm. It always makes me want to plant some fruit trees or get a chicken coop.
Lily got her hands "dirty" this year. She washed the apples and put them into the antique press. She strained the fiber from the juice, then poured it into the jugs. Finally, she yelled "stop pouring" at the exact moment. Lily also loved peeling the apples with the peeling machines. She seemed to hear it all.
Her favorite moments were ridding in the horse-drawn carriage and drinking the apple juice which she "helped" to make. Lily wanted to experience everything with little fear of the bees, dogs or hogs.
I have no doubt we will be hearing about Farmer Fred, the chickens and the delicious apple pie for quite a while. These are such authentic life experiences that make kids (and adults) understand about real food, as well as how a community can come together to make quick time of a big job. We are so happy to be a part of it.
